Poker Stars Reviews

Poker Stars opened for play money beta testing September 12th 2001 and began offering real money games in December 2001. As the leading tournament online poker room it has produced players who won their way to become the 2003 (Chris Moneymaker) and 2004 (Greg Raymer) World Series of Poker Main Event Champions.

Poker Stars was the breeding ground for the last 3 World Series of Poker – Chris Moneymaker, Greg Raymer & Joe Hachem and has the most online qualifiers for the WSOP / WPT. The site has caught up with Party Poker and now boasts the highest volume of tournaments online and it’s ring game traffic is very good too. With a reputation for having very tough games across the board – It’s massive growth means this isn’t the case anymore. OK the mid to high limit games are tough but this is the same on any site. The lower limit games are now on a par with other sites and have got juicier as the site has grown. Poker Stars also have micro-limit games.

Probably my favourite poker room as it’s the one I always seem to get drawn back too is Poker Stars. Mainly due to the notoriety of having Greg Raymer, Chris Moneymaker and Joseph Hachem winning the World Series of Poker and all under the Poker Stars banner. They even claim to have the best quality poker players around and believe me when I say there are plenty of sharks.

Promotions and Bonus Information

PokerStars offers quite good promotions for the typical player and gives back plenty as promotions and loyalty bonuses. There are frequent deposit bonuses. Through Poker Junkie you get a 100% bonus match up to . It is released as soon as you gather 500 FPP. A lot of special events open up for nice surprises.

Poker Traffic

The traffic at PokerStars is market leading, and with a good margin. Sure, there are fewer players in ring games than in tournaments, but this is a truly academic issue seeing that Poker Stars is simply the biggest poker room on the Internet. At no other site will you find tournaments with several thousand entrants on a regular basis. Some of them are really high buy-ins, but there are also cheaper tournaments, such as the weekly Sunday 0K with a buy-in at . They always run without technical problems, against all odds you might think.

On the flip side, there are many novice players anxiously waiting to get in on the action at this site’s many poker tables.Based in Costa Rica, this site has more registered players than most any other poker room on the Internet. What’s more, you are playing against the skill of your opponents not the house, making this a great way to earn more money or play for free. Be sure to check out the Sunday Million poker tourney as well as the VIP Club at PokerStars.

Online Poker software. The table view whilst not as visually appealing as other large poker rooms remains highly functional and attractive with each user having their own avatar. The avatar can be personalised, for example, by uploading an image, and so players are not restricted to using a number of pre-existing ones. You can also switch between a number of themes. Moving the mouse over each player enables you to see where the player is located and by right clicking you can add player notes recording tells and other notable habits.

For those that like to play at multiple tables you will be pleased to hear that the tables can be resized so you can view more than one at the same time and the software will automatically switch you the table that requires action. That’s of course unless you don’t want to in which case you can deselect it in the options menu.
