Which Poker Player Will You Pick As Your Hero?

The hotly anticipated PokerStars Final has finally taken place and in all honesty the winner deserved every cent of his winnings, although it was a tough call who to back. There was the poker playing priest who had already said he would be donating all his winnings to the church in order to get a new roof built.   On the other hand we had a severely injured 9/11 veteran policeman who had been unable to work ever since his heroic efforts to rescue people trapped in the towers on that fateful.

Father Andrew Trapp was playing for his local parish as they had recently been given a quote for the church roof of over 1 million Dollars.  Already 100,000 Dollars closer to their target with Father Trapp’s first round winnings, the final held the potential to pay most of the new roof costs.  In the first round, he relied on a bit of divine help to win the prize.

Unfortunately it would seem on the night, the big guy upstairs was not smiling down on the church, as a retired New York Police Detective by the name of Mike Kosowsk was lucky.

It’s a hard call and you wouldn’t think that the prize could have a more deserving winner than Father Trapp, however Mike Kosowsk is certainly up there as well.  Detective Kosowsk was actually close to the World Trade Centre when terrorists attacked it back in September 2001.  He rushed into the buildings to help rescue those trapped inside and suffered serious injury.  His injuries were quite significant and included 3 herniated discs in his neck and 2 in his back due entirely to the collapsing South tower.

With no thought to the pain he was in, he was able to escape into the nearby World Financial Center, where he assisted a few others to safety.  There is no doubt at all that this was the very worst day of his life.  He was rightly awarded the Medal of Valor for his sterling efforts in saving members of not only the general public but armed forces as well.

Unfortunately, the toll of his injuries was felt and a few years later he was forced to take early retirement.  With Mike now housebound due to the pain in his back, he took to learning Poker to distract himself.  After seeing an advert for the tournament, he decided to try for a place and it proved to be the best decision he ever made.  The final turned out to be a real hum dinger with him scooping the jackpot prize of 1 million US Dollars.  Mike not only plans to take great care of his family, but is also intent on setting up a fund to aid the children of parents who sadly lost their lives in 9/11 in the hope they can attend college and also plans to give to CityHarvest which helps to feed homeless people.

With such a fantastic winning steak, perhaps they could try their hands at Online Poker, with a game of Full Tilt Poker or maybe Betfair Poker thrown in to the mix.
